de'Israeli says:
Hi Astrid,
Today, I read in an Israeli paper that another group of artist are calling to boycott Israel.
I want you to know that you are boycotting the wrong people.
People who consume culture are usually the ones that also object they’re government policies.
It is true in Israel, as I believe it is anywhere in the world.
We, the artists, weather we are Israelis, Palestinians or Irish, always see the human being first, and not the favor of the country, the flag, the nationality.
My nationality is citizen of the world.
It hurts me badly to live in a country that holds million people in prison and prevent them they’re freedom and pride.
I do not represent Israel. I do not represent a movement or group. I speak for my self.
And since when I look at you performing so nicely here, in this youtube clip, I don’t (and can’t) see you as a group, a representative of Ireland, or even just Irish.
I see you as a person, an artist, or just Astrid.
This is how I want you to see me if we will meet. As the sole human I am.
When I read about groups that call to act against Israel it plants fear in my heart, for I know that once I’ll say I’m from Israel this might be the last and only thing you’ll see in me.
If you’ll do this, you are no more and no less then a racist.
I have voted for the Arab party in the Israeli parliament since my first right to vote. I have Palestinian and Israeli-Arab friends, among them some of us collaborated together in several volunteer projects.
When a group of artist call for a boycott on Israel they don’t make any deference except the good right feeling that this action put them in. The Israeli leaders don’t loose anything when you don’t come, because they wouldn’t come to your show anyway, and the ones that would come to your show don’t have to change they’re minds because the vast majority of them are supporting human rights anyway and act for these causes on a daily base.
I just hope that the next time you’ll meet an Israeli, you’ll see him or her for what they are, who they are, and not for they’re passport.
Salam, Shalom, Peace.
Astrid says:
Dear de’Israeli,
I have nothing against you and most Israeli people. Worldcitizens indeed.
It is about making a statement here. I am delighted it was in the Israeli papers. Fair play to you taking such an effort to contact the artists. Don’t be afraid, we all just try to do something. If you know of anything i can help. I am certainly interested to change things from the inside. Just remember south africa. The boycott had an impact!
